The brush edit: Choosing the right brush

Choosing the right hairbrush is essential to how your hair looks, feels, and behaves. Our hair, whether straight or textured, fine or dense, dry or oily, is unique and calls for a considered approach.

At boco atelier, brushing is more than a routine. It is a quiet, daily ritual.

Why the right brush matters

Every strand of hair has its own structure, thickness, porosity, natural oil levels, and resilience. These invisible characteristics determine how your hair responds to brushing.

The wrong brush can cause stress, breakage, and imbalance. The right one transforms a simple gesture into care - enhancing shine, strength, and overall harmony.

Fine to normal hair

Fine hair is especially delicate, particularly when wet. For this reason, it is best brushed only when dry to reduce the risk of breakage.

A gentle brush designed for daily use helps detangle without pulling or stressing the hair.

Natural bristles distribute the hair’s natural oils, enhance shine and create the feeling of fuller, more voluminous hair. The result is soft, light, and naturally radiant hair.

The recommended brush: 100% natural boar brush.

Thick or dense hair

Thicker hair requires a brush that can move through the lengths with ease. With a well-crafted brush, the hair will detangle without resistance, smooth frizz and gently stimulate the scalp. With its material, the brush will distribute natural oils from root to tip, resulting the hair more controlled, supple, and refined.

The recommended brush: boar & nylon brush.

Curly and wavy hair

Curly and wavy hair benefits from being brushed while damp rather than dry. Brushing dry hair can disrupt the natural curl pattern, create excess volume and increase frizz.

Instead, use a gentle detangling brush on damp hair to preserve definition. As a final touch, a soft brush can be used lightly on dry hair to smooth the surface and reveal a subtle, natural shine.

The recommended brush: boar & nylon brush.

Oily hair

For hair that becomes oily quickly, brushing helps restore balance. By brushing from the scalp through the lengths, excess oil is evenly distributed, roots feel lighter and lengths remain nourished without heaviness. Regular brushing, can also help extend the time between washes.

The recommended brush: 100% natural boar brush.

A daily ritual

Once you have found the right brush, brushing becomes more than maintenance, it becomes a moment of intention, a moment for you and yourself.
